A blood pressure figure is only as good as the cuff that took it, and a cuff is only as good as its fit. That is not our opinion: the heart association asks for a cuff matched to the arm, prefers upper-arm automatic monitors for home use, and treats home readings as information for your next appointment rather than a lever on your treatment.

Automatic wrist monitors, manual cuffs from a 7.2-inch pediatric to a 26-inch thigh size, and sterile 30-gauge lancets in counts of 100 to 300.

This shelf therefore leads with printed ranges. Every cuff names the arm it closes on in inches, pediatric to thigh, and the manual cuffs are the training-room staple nursing students actually buy. What no card here will ever tell you is to change a dose: that conversation belongs to your clinician, with your numbers in hand. The association wording, with the date we read it, is on our updates page.
Asked on this shelf
What people ask us about blood pressure and testing before they order.
Wrap a tape measure around the upper arm and read the inches. Each cuff card prints its printed range, 7.2 to 10.5 for the pediatric, 10 to 16 standard, 13 to 20 large, up to 26 for the thigh cuff. A cuff outside its range reads wrong, which defeats the errand.
The heart association prefers automatic upper-arm cuffs for home use and calls wrist readings less reliable. Wrist models earn their place where an upper-arm cuff cannot fit or cannot be managed alone; treat their figures as notes for your clinician, not verdicts.
No. Home readings are for tracking and for your next appointment, and the guidance is blunt: no stopping or changing blood pressure medication without your clinician, whatever the number says.
